What is Monochromatic Fashion?
This easy fashion-forward technique that looks effortless and chic.

Monochromatic fashion is when your entire look is based on one color. After you have chosen your base color, you can add range to your look by using the hues (tints and shades) of your base color. It’s effective because monochromatic colors are naturally harmonious. The unity of the colors “make sense” to the eye. The more repeated colors the eye sees, the easier it is to process what’s being seen.
Your base color becomes the throughline that connects your entire look.
For this look, I took inspiration from these geometric monochromatic earrings by Vintage Royalty called “The Jodi.”. As you can see, the base color for “The Jodi” is green. The stud of the earrings is a darker shade than the drop portion of the earrings. Although each part of the earring is a different shade, it remains visually harmonic.
Meena Osei-Kuffour, owner of Vintage Royalty, holds our interest by incorporating geometric shapes. The shapes used in the earrings along with the shades of green make them interesting. The use of negative space inside the rectangle of the drop portion of the earrings gives them a lighter appearance, as well. I paired the earrings with a green jacket with a high collar and visible style lines, which compliment the outline of the earrings.
Monochromatic is the way to go if you want a quick way to look fashion forward and effortless.
