A Dress That Embodies An Airy Flow

BY VICTORIA REED
January 2021

The Adaeze dress by Patience Torlowei embodies the light and airy flow with life that is required to truly gain access to our creativity and create something that has meaning and impact.

Using photography to capture the beauty and essence of a fashion product is something that brings me joy. Especially when I’m able to let go of negative thoughts that try to weigh down my creativity--like comparing myself to others, worrying what people may think, or wanting to have everything perfectly planned out before I make a move.

One morning I was sitting at my kitchen counter with my laptop open and stacks of notebooks sprawled all over the place -- like I’m doing right now as I write this article. I’d already made the decision to start the magazine, but I hadn’t launched the first issue yet. I was nervous about whether or not people would embrace it. That morning I was making a list of black talented designers and products I wanted to feature in the magazine. I came across this Adaeze dress. It immediately became a “one day.” Meaning “one day” I will be able to feature that dress in my magazine. I told myself it may take a year or two, but it would happen. It only took four months, and I’m featuring this dress! If I’d allowed negative thoughts to stop me from moving forward, I wouldn’t have experienced this moment.

I say that to say, you never know what’s in store for you. If you’re courageous enough to take action, you may be surprised at how things align on your behalf. That great desire you have in your heart is ready to be unleashed. Live your life in a way that’s fulfilling, satisfying and meaningful.

The Adaeze dress represents knowing your value. When we are courageous enough to let go of mental limitations we will move beyond what we can imagine for ourselves. Our creativity is valuable. Our work is valuable. Our contribution to the world is valuable.
